People often say, “If you don’t like the weather in the Adirondacks, wait five minutes.” Yesterday was one of those days. Despite the occasional showers, our girls enjoyed their first full day of activities, with many taking and passing the deep water test.
In the evening, we celebrated the start of our 108th year with our opening campfire led by the Supy girls, the oldest in camp. They spoke about the importance of perseverance when faced with challenges, sharing heartfelt stories and songs. Eddie captivated us with the tale of the early days of the lake and the origin of Raquette’s name. Together with Kathi and Tara, he honored our head staff members who have dedicated 25, 20, 15, and 10 years to camp.
Kim welcomed everyone warmly, emphasizing the importance of trying new things this summer, making new friends, and reminding us that Raquette is a family where we care for one another. She encouraged campers to dream big and shine brightly, just like the dancing diamonds on the lake or the stars above.
Finally, Alison wrapped up the night by celebrating our long-standing campers and counselors, marking the beginning of another unforgettable summer at Raquette.
