Last night was one of those unforgettable Camp Raquette evenings that reminds us just how special summer can be.
The excitement began with our annual Dance Showcase, where campers proudly took the stage to perform the routines they have been learning all summer long. From beautiful solo performances to energetic duets, trios, and full group dances, every performance showcased the confidence, creativity, and hard work of our girls. To top it all off, our head staff surprised everyone with a special dance of their own, filling the theater with cheers.
After the show, the girls returned to their bunks, thinking the evening had come to an end. But at 9:00 PM, counselors quietly gathered everyone outside for what appeared to be a routine fire drill. As the campers looked out across the lake, they were met with an incredible sight—the barge glowing in the darkness with six blazing fire torches. Moments later, the legendary 6 Chairs flag came marching down the hill, and in an instant the girls knew exactly what was happening.
With excitement building, campers sprinted to the theater to witness one of Camp Raquette’s most treasured traditions: the announcement of this year’s Six Chairs.
For those who are new to Camp Raquette, the Six Chairs represent the culmination of the summer. Six girls from SUPY are chosen to lead camp through Team Week, serving as role models who embody everything it means to be a Raquette camper. They are selected for their kindness, leadership, enthusiasm, character, and the positive example they set for everyone around them.
The anticipation, emotion, and thunderous applause made for a magical evening that none of us will soon forget.
