Yeehaw! One of the biggest traditions of the summer rode into Boys Camp on Saturday evening as campers from Raquette Lake Girls Camp crossed the lake for our annual Western Night!
The excitement began the moment the girls arrived by boat, where they were greeted by country music, western decorations, and plenty of smiling cowboys ready to welcome them. After everyone gathered together, it was time for one of the favorite meals of the summer—a classic Pig Nite feast! Campers enjoyed a delicious barbecue dinner with all the fixings before topping it off with a sweet dessert shared with friends from both camps.
With full stomachs, everyone headed to the flagpole where Jose got the party started by teaching a few line dances. Soon the entire camp was clapping, stomping, and laughing together before heading off to explore all of the western-themed activities spread across the hill.
There was something around every corner! Campers tested their skills on the mechanical bull, tried their hand at horse roping, raced through potato sack races, competed in the cow milking contest, tossed giant horseshoes, knocked down tin cans, pulled with all their might in the tractor pull, and even stopped by the arts and crafts station to make western-inspired bead creations. Of course, the photo booth was busy all evening as friends captured memories together in their cowboy hats and bandanas.
The hill was filled with laughter, music, and the special energy that comes when our boys and girls camps come together. From cheering each other on at every game to dancing and spending time with friends old and new, Western Night was another unforgettable evening that perfectly captured the spirit of Raquette Lake Camps.
As the sun set over the lake and the boats headed home, campers left with tired legs, huge smiles, and plenty of stories to tell. Western Night continues to be one of our favorite traditions—and after another incredible year, it’s easy to see why!
Until next time…
