Specialty Wakeboarding & Waterski Counselor
Job Description
Raquette Lake Camps are looking for several Specialty Counselors to assist with our Wakeboarding & Waterski program. Are you a college student looking for the best summer job? Working as a Specialty Counselor at our summer camp is so much more than the ordinary summer camp counselor job.
Wakeboarding & Waterski Counselors are part of our Specialty Counselor staff, and primarily focus on assisting with wakeboarding & waterski related activities. Specialty staff members are also bunk counselors participating in bunk life and other activities.
Working at camp as a Specialty Counselor is very rewarding. You will have daily opportunities to mentor campers as a big brother or sister, guiding and encouraging them in your activity area and bunk life. You will be living in a bunk with campers, sharing meals with them, participating in special events, and being a part of our community.”

Responsibilities
Speciality Counselors will be assisting the Head Wakeboarding & Waterski Instructor with demonstrations, games, and other activities. More importantly, our Speciality Counselors will be tasked with keeping campers engaged, and making sure everyone is included, and having fun both during wakeboarding & waterski activities, and the rest of camp. Other responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Head Instructor with setting up the equipment needed for the day
- Ensuring campers and other counselors are participating
- Providing extra help to campers who may be struggling/become frustrated
- Being a leader in the bunk, dining hall, and throughout camp
As a Wakeboarding & Waterski Specialist Counselor, you will have the opportunity to participate in all kinds of games and activities that have to do with wakeboarding & waterski, such as (but not limited to):
- Fundamental techniques
- Demonstrations
- Trick contests
Specialist Counselors may also, from time to time, be called upon by the Head Instructor to lead specific drills, and activities. The Head Instructor will also be looking to the Wakeboarding & Waterski Specialists for feedback from campers.

Wakeboarding & Waterski Head Instructor
Job Description
Raquette Lake Camps are seeking an excited, passionate, fun-loving individual to take on the role of Head Wakeboarding & Waterski Instructor. We look for mature current and former athletes, instructors or teachers. Experience working with kids is required.
The Head Wakeboarding & Waterski Instructor will be a member of our senior staff and will receive competitive compensation, private housing, all meals, scheduled time off, and more.
Responsibilities
As Head Wakeboarding & Waterski Instructor you will be responsible for organizing activity periods revolving around wakeboarding & waterski for kids between the ages of 7-15. Other responsibilities include:
- Planning games and activities for each day
- Setting up the room/area with the appropriate equipment
- Provide thoughtful instruction to campers of all skill levels
- Maintaining a positive, fun environment
The role of Head Instructor requires someone who is capable of providing high-level instruction, while also having the ability to create a fun and uplifting environment for our campers. Fortunately, you won’t be expected to do this on your own, as you will have Activity Specialists, as well as General Counselors by your side to ensure your activities run smoothly, and the kids are getting the positive reinforcement they deserve.
Our Head Instructors are also integral members of the camp senior staff, participating in all aspects of camp life, from meals, to evening activities, and everything in between!

FAQs

When Does The Job Start & End?
The summer begins in late June and ends in early August. All staff are hired for a minimum of 8 weeks; this includes staff training. Some positions require additional training and certification courses at the start of the summer. See our [Summer Calendar] for this year’s session dates and training information. Hiring priority is given to staff who commit to the full summer.

Where Will I Live?
Senior Staff and Head Coaches are provided with private accommodations. General Counselors and Speciality Counselors live in a bunk with 6-10 campers and 1-2 other counselors. All bunks have bathrooms. All girls’ bunks and most boys’ bunks have showers.

Is Food Included?
Whether you’re a “foodie”, a picky eater, have allergies, or just like to eat healthy, we take food seriously at camp! Our dedicated food service director, and team, prepare well-balanced meals that are always fresh (never frozen) to ensure that our campers and staff are satisfied.

Do I Need My Own Gear?
We provide all required equipment, but you’re welcome to bring your own gear.

Will I Get Trained?
Yes. Extensive training is provided. Your job starts with a week of staff training, plus you may earn specialty certifications for your role at camp.

Where Is Camp?
We are located on Raquette Lake in New York, within the Adirondack State Park.

How Will I Get to Camp?
We have ample parking at camp, and we provide transportation from Albany if you are traveling by air, train, or bus.

Can I Keep My Phone?
Yes. Our camp is screen free but you’ll be able to use it on your time off.

Can I Apply With A Friend?
If they want to work at camp, that’s super! Boys’ Camp & Girls’ Camp span two physically separated properties so you may not see each other every day, but time off can be scheduled together.

Can I Bring My Kids?
Yes! Senior staff members have access to special offers for their kids.

Can I Bring My Pet?
No.
