WOW! What a day yesterday truly was! We started off the morning with a Lazy Sunday Breakfast. After a relaxed breakfast, campers and counselors headed back to their bunks to get ready for the dance showcase and color run! Our head of dance, Maya, prepared 5 dances with her intensive dancers across all age groups. They have been practicing all summer and yesterday morning, we finally got to see what they’ve been working on. From jazz to contemporary, the girls showed off their skills and even brought some of the audience members to tears with their beauty and grace. At the end of the dance show, Maya prepared a special dance with the former campers and a surprise fake breakout!
Once the dance show commenced, campers and counselors prepared to lap around camp for the 2023 color run! As the girls ran through the colors they had an absolute blast! They especially loved the balloon arch at the end of the run, signifying that they had reached the finish line. While cheering on their counselors and friends, the color run ended in a big surprise for all…TEAM WEEK BREAKOUT! As head staff came running through with blue and white confetti and airhorns, the girls excitedly cheered for this moment they’d been waiting for all summer!
Although team week broke out in the morning, it is customary for our team week campfire to be at night. To that end, the girls spent the rest of the day on boys side for this year’s carnival! This beloved Raquette tradition includes lots of sweets, games, and bouncy rides as the camp dressed up in their tie-dye t-shirts. After enjoying snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, and pig night dinner on the boy’s camp beach, the girls had ice cream for dessert and lined up to go back over to girl’s side.
Once the bugle rang, campers and counselors lined up on Old Adirondack Field and marched into the campfire site to commence the beginning of this year’s team week. As the camp watched their captains and TA’s canoe toward the sailing dock, the girls anxiously awaited the reveal of their colors. And of course, they were extremely excited to see who this year’s counselor TAs are! Once the captains read aloud each camper’s team, the girls headed back to the bunks for bed.
As team week officially began this morning, activities have begun in full force! We can’t wait to see our SUPY leaders shine this week. Good luck to both the white and the blue team! And always remember, we may be white, we may be blue, we all stand together.
