Summer 2024 Camp Olympics Day 1 was definitely one to remember. At precisely 9:45 AM, the first countries began loading boats from RLGC, making their way to the meeting sites scattered across the camp.
As all the countries got together, they lined up for the grand parade. Olympic music played from the speakers, and the parade began. Two head staff members carried the Olympic Flag/Banner, leading the countries up the road and onto the fields. Anthems played as each country entered the main field, parading toward the flagpole.
With all countries in place, the Olympic torch, made its way up the road from the woodshop to the flagpole. The torch was laid down into a holder, marking the official start of the day’s events. Jon and Sparky took the stage, offering opening remarks and explaining the day’s activities.
At 11:00 AM, the kickball games began with great fanfare: Japan faced off against Italy at the Softball Field, Australia battled Greece at the Baseball Frield, Canada competed with France at the Outer Field, Brazil went head to head with South Africa at the soccer frield
By 12:15 PM, teams gathered on the main field for a picnic lunch all together! After lunch, campers cleaned up and regrouped for the afternoon activities. The campers were sent to their respective events: Frosh to gaga, Sophs to tennis, Juniors to volleyball, and seniors to soccer. Around 2:00pm The ice cream golf cart made its way up the hill and all the campers enjoyed snack time!
Last but not least it was time for the all-Country relay races. The teams lined up on either side of the lanes, and batons were ready for the track events.
The day’s events were wrapped up with closing remarks and a teaser for Monday’s activities at Girls Camp. The girls were then sent down the hill to load boats, the air filled with the sound of music and excitement, while the boys stayed behind.
The 2024 Camp Olympics had been a great success! We are excited to tell you all about day two!
